Metaphysics book 16/9/2023 ![]() From a modern perspective, it seems that atoms and molecules are substantial, and an organism is also substantial, but the are not “substantial” in the same way. One item that puzzled me at first and that paid off my inquiry was the variety of things that were claimed by Aristotle as being “substance”. Something to think about while you read this. ![]() ![]() concerning reductionism and physicalism and I hope that it is clear how I think this is so. In my view, this can be well adapted to modern debates e.g. It shows how Aristotle defends his views against both idealism and materialism. It concerns the concept of “substance” ( ousia), or in other words “the ‘most real’ sort of thing that is”.
